Daniela Bacchelli: a brief biography

Daniela Bacchelli was born in S. Agata Bolognese near Bologna and while she was a child she learnt to draw and use colours, following in the footsteps of her maternal grandfather, Giuseppe Scaramelli, a painter with a studio in Milan, he, too, son of an artist. The family business, founded in the second half of the 19th century by Daniela's great- great- grandfather in San Giovanni in Persiceto near Bologna, was famous throughout Europe for its production of decorated and painted wrought-iron bedsteads.

At the beginning of the 1970s, Daniela spent several years travelling between Pans and Cambridge, attending painting courses and improving both her French and her English. On her return to Italy she decided to resume her artistic vocation, initially by painting the faces of the actors in a play by William Shakespeare: "A Winter's Tale" and then going on to attend courses concerning painting and restoration. This was the start of a period that continued throughout the 1990s during which she worked on various restoration jobs. Amongst these the following can be noted:

  • The Church of Viadana near Mantova.
  • The Church (Pieve) of the Madonna dei Boschi at Loiano near Bologna.
  • The Flemish College (Collegio dei Fiamminghi) "Jean Jacob" in Bologna.
  • Restoration of frescoes, ceilings and walls and decorative wall painting for public and private customers both in Italy and abroad.
  • Decoration of the main dome of the residence of Sheikh Al Maktoun Dubai.

Since 1996, she has been using both oils and acrylic paints on canvas to carry out commissions for portrait painting such as the portrait of Santa Clelia Barbieri on show in the "Santuario delle Budrie" in San Giovanni in Persiceto near Bologna.

In 2000, she exhibited several of her paintings at the "Tempest Art Gallery" and took part in various group exhibitions.

In May 2001, she opened her own personal exhibition at the "Galleria del Circolo Artistico" in Bologna.

On 7th December 2002, in the 16th century "Cortiletto delle Fontane" of the "Palazzo Alidosi" in Castel del Rio near Bologna, she was invited by the Mayor to show a selection of her paintings as examples of her different techniques. This was in order to create a kind of artistic biography, to pinpoint the various stages in her artistic career. On this occasion, she was introduced by the well¬known Bolognese artist, Antonio Saliola.

In June 2003, she was invited to take part in the Art, Fashion and Showbusiness trade fair "Artville Bistrot" in Lugano, Switzerland.
